Netflix’s Criminal is a hugely successful series set and filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. It follows three detectives, DI Marnie Rome (played by Sophie Okonedo), DS Ray Wise (played by Sean Harris) and DS Calvin Llewellyn-Woolf (played by Jamie Bamber), who work to solve unusual crimes that often cross over from their respective areas of expertise. As fans eagerly await a new season of the series, here are five facts about the crime-fighting trio that you might not know.

The first ever episode of Criminal saw DS Llewellyn-Woolf wrongly imprisoned for an attempted murder charge before he was released when it was discovered that it was actually his twin brother, Craig Woolf, who had committed the crime. In another case, David Tennant played Edgar Fallon, a doctor accused of rape and murder – but with Llewellyn-Woolf determined to get to the truth behind the accusations, his guilt was never confirmed. Although Kit Harington is best known for playing Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, he has appeared on Criminal as Alex, a newly married real estate sales manager who is accused of rape. In Alex, we see how Alex is blindsided by his wife’s accusation that he raped her while they were on their honeymoon. While it’s unclear whether or not Alex actually did it, there are many examples that lead us to believe he may have been guilty. At one point, he asks his wife if she was thinking about someone else and then forces himself onto her after she replies with no. He also confesses to imagining what it would be like to rape her and seeing other women he wanted to do the same thing with. With such clear-cut evidence against him, I’m confident this guy will be locked up for good!

To any fan of Criminal, Okonedo’s performance is an unforgettable one. Okonedo was nominated for a Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, while her co-star Adrian Lester (who played convict Hugo Lacey) won a Golden Globe for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film. In this award-winning episode of Criminal, Okonedo plays Julia Bryce, the long-suffering wife of Hugo Lacey. She spends years visiting him in prison before he is released and they try to build a life together. However, as she slowly comes to terms with his guilt and he can’t forgive himself, their relationship crumbles under the weight of their secrets.

The attention to detail that Okonedo gives to this role may have something to do with why it resonated so strongly with viewers and critics alike.

Sharon Horgan Portrayed Danielle Dunne : Criminal

Sharon Horgan Portrayed Danielle Dunne

It’s not often that television series spend an entire episode just focused on one character and there is something to be said for Sharon Horgan. Her portrayal of Danielle Dunne – the head of a vigilante group targeting online pedophiles, was captivating and well thought out. The episode was self-contained but used events from past episodes to deliver a compelling message; you don’t have to rely on law enforcement to get things done and it is better when you are proactive. Horgan’s role as Dunne offers a counterpoint to Jodie Comer’s role as Alice Morgan (Episode 1). In this respect, it also reflects how Criminal has already evolved beyond episodic crime drama. Lolita Chakrabarti Portrayed Anita Baines : Solicitor

Lolita Chakrabarti is one of two actresses portraying Anita Baines, Edgar’s solicitor. After watching the first season of Criminal, I thought she was pretty good, but there’s a lot more to her character. In episode six, for example, she becomes quite upset when talking about the poor treatment of legal aid lawyers by people who think they’re not qualified enough to do their job. She also has some personal problems because her husband and son have left her, which makes me wonder if that could be why she wanted this particular case so badly. It’s hard to say how these things will play out, but it looks like we’ll see more of her soon!

In a society where a computer can predict who will commit a crime, what’s a crime drama worth without a cop and his/her collar? Every week, audience members are privy to one detective’s unique approach to solving an unsolvable case. One of the detectives, namely DCI Gene Hunt (played by actor Philip Glenister), delivers out-of-left-field quips while commandeering damaged women with perfect hair and wearing too much gold. According to IMDb, he is quoted as saying How could you think I’d ever retire? With all this going on, how would I get my pension from me beret?

As for AC Sam Tyler (played by actor Aidan Gillen) his character is driven by a greater sense of justice than most other cops. He makes mistakes along the way but always tries his best to avoid hurting innocent people.
