It’s no secret that the dwarves in The Lord of the Rings franchise are tough and extremely burly, but there’s one group of dwarven women who aren’t just tough—they’re some of the toughest characters in all of The Lord of the Rings! They are the female Dwarves of Khazad-dum, and they are led by none other than Disa herself! Sophia Nomvete as Disa: A Badass Lady Dwarf You Don’t Want to Mess With

Who is she?

Sophia Nomvete plays the character of Disa, princess of the Dwarven city of Khazad-dum. The way that she is portrayed in the series gives a little more insight into the Dwarves’ daily lives, since we didn’t get to see much of them in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. She’s shown to be one tough lady and doesn’t take any crap from anyone, male or female. Her badassery combined with her attractive features make her an interesting character who you don’t want to mess with!

This lady dwarf has an important role

The Lord of the Rings has many awesome characters, but I’m especially excited about Disa. She’s a princess from the Dwarven city of Khazad-dum, and her biggest role is in The Rings of Power where she saves Frodo and Sam from Boromir by sacrificing herself so they can make it back to the Mines of Moria. This episode is significant because it shows the inner workings of Dwarven society. We get a glimpse into how dwarves are treated differently based on their gender– females have facial hair but not large beards like males do– which symbolizes their oppression within that society.

She’s tough

Many might call her the Princess of the Dwarven City, but she’s one tough lady. She would not be taken prisoner without a fight; even without The Rings of Power, there is no one who could subdue her. The other female Dwarves have facial hair, but they don’t have large beards like the male Dwarves in the series. She may not know it yet, but her strength and power are boundless!

All four of her Ringwraith friends fear her

A new game from a very popular series was recently released and the moment you get the chance, you want to play it. But when you start playing, an intriguing new character emerges. One who has a fierce will for justice and will not back down. Meet Disa – princess of the Dwarven city of Khazad-dum and second in command after Queen Lalieli. She is one of the many female dwarves in the game that comes equipped with facial hair.

She is noble

The Lords of the Rings trilogy was never about a ring and its destruction. It’s about the battle between good and evil, Sauron versus Gandalf and his associates. The tale is carried along by an ensemble cast that includes some of the most iconic characters in literary history, such as elves Galadriel, Legolas, Frodo Baggins, and Samwise Gamgee, who are all striving to help destroy the Ring of Power.

She commands respect

Nomvete’s portrayal of Disa is pretty spot on. She doesn’t seem to take crap from anyone and she commands the respect of her people. For example, in the opening scene when they’re waiting for Gandalf the Wizard to arrive, a few of the Dwarves are making rude comments about his lateness. Disa stands up and tells them all that if any one of them speaks out again, she’ll throw him off the cliff.

She takes charge

The best representation of a tough lady dwarf? Sophia Nomvete as Disa in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings. When we first meet her, she’s engaged in battle with orcs and clearly kicking ass. As she kills them one by one, she slams her helmet on their head and takes pleasure in their death. She also tells Aragorn not to ask if she is all right because that’s what he always does and his concern annoys her.

Action speaks louder than words – she proves it here in this scene

The movie’s website states, Disa is the princess of the Dwarven city of Khazad-dum, but her father was slain in battle and her people are now slaves to a large group of rock trolls. This description is perfect for a queen that will give up everything for her family. In an early scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, we see Disa walking with other female Dwarves. What makes them special is their facial hair.

Who is Sophia Nomvete’s Princess Disa?

Pippin is the bearer of one of the Elven Rings, and Gandalf is curious about the whereabouts of these rings. So he sends Merry and Pippin off on an adventure that leads them first to Isengard (which they don’t actually explore), then eventually to Fangorn Forest, where they make a rather unwise stop at Saruman’s tower (long story short, it doesn’t go well).

Who is Princess Disa in ‘the Lord of the Rings’?

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings series, there are many unforgettable characters that take on significant roles in the narrative. One such character is Princess Disa, daughter of King Durin and Queen Tinna of Khazad-dum, who you might also know better by the more recognizable name – Moria! Princess Disa first appears in Book I, Chapter III when she meets with Gandalf at her father’s door. He requests permission for the dwarves to pass through their kingdom into Lothlorien.

Why did Nomvete decide to play a pregnant woman?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sophia told how she had to audition four times before she got the part of Disa. She wanted a unique role and something out of her comfort zone so this performance was perfect for her. I want to play somebody who’s not pregnant and playing a pregnant person, said Sophia in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Who is the actress who plays Disa in the Crown?

In this latest installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Sophia Nomvete takes on the role of Disa, Princess of the Dwarven city of Khazad-dum. As one of few female Dwarves in Middle Earth, she does her part for her people by defending their city from Elves and Men. Her weapon of choice is a huge sword called Narsil, which was broken during an epic battle with Sauron that took place before the events in The Fellowship of the Ring. The crown has been out for almost a month now, so you should go see it!
