Detective Espinoza was driving down an LA street one night when he saw Lucifer waving down a cab and yelled out, Hey, you! You can’t just flag down cabs like that! When the detective realized who he was yelling at, he immediately apologized and drove away without another word. Is Detective Espinoza Clueless?

First Impressions

Detective Dan has been recently hired onto LAPD and is partnered with Chloe Decker, Lucifer’s ex-wife. They share a mutual dislike for each other and Dan’s lack of professionalism when it comes to police procedures infuriates his partner. Despite their issues, they work well together as a team. Although Dan’s methods are questionable at times, he does have a good heart and truly cares about solving cases and helping people out.

The Inconsistencies

Although Dan and Chloe’s divorce occurred four years prior to Lucifer, we are led to believe that Chloe and Dan are still single. Yet, when we watch them interact it is as if they are a married couple who hasn’t been together for two minutes. They fight, insult one another and share a closeness not typically seen in divorced couples. This leaves us wondering if Lucifer’s writers either forgot about their own plot or created an entirely new timeline where divorced couples maintain such intimacy.

The Reveal (Season 1 Episode 12)

Lucifer attempts to kill a human who he believes is responsible for his mother’s death. Dan discovers that Dr. Linda Marcus (Aimee Garcia) has been working with his ex-wife, Chloe Decker. She is also dating Dan and they are involved in a romantic relationship. When Lucifer sees them together, he assumes that she is cheating on him with Decker as revenge for rejecting her earlier advances and breaking off their friendship, but soon discovers otherwise when Marcus explains herself in an interview.

The Way Forward

That’s what I’ve called it. That’s what Chloe calls it too when she introduces Dan to Lucifer for their first meeting. The Way Forward is not a new show on Fox, but it should be—because The Way Forward summarizes why Lucifer has become one of my favorite shows on television in only two episodes.

Season 2

We’ve just seen that ‘Detective Dan’ is still dealing with his personal issues about Chloe’s death, and now he’s also connected to Lucifer. It looks like we’re in for a long line of further difficulties as Dan tries to prove his credibility on his new job and figure out what is really going on between Lucifer and Mazikeen.
