In the Season 2 finale of Schitt’s Creek, The Joke, Rizwan Manji as Ray Butani is a tour de force. He had me laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe. The episode opens with him being dragged out of his house to be made a town councillor. On his way there he runs into Chris Elliott and after a quick hello they exchange their big plans for the day: I’m going to drink some coffee says Chris. I’m going to have my first cold beer in two years, responds Ray. It doesn’t take long for them both to come clean that their plan is just a cover-up for alcohol consumption and it isn’t long before we find out why too: alcohol was banned in Schitts Creek at the end of season 1.
The Emotions
I personally love the show because it is not a typical sitcom, but has real life problems that need to be addressed. I also find the interactions between Rizwan Manji as Ray Butani and David (the son) are really funny and heartwarming. I recommend this show to anyone who wants an enjoyable sitcom with some serious issues mixed in.
