Later Life

In 1950 Rita married Aly Khan in Mexico City in an interfaith ceremony that bridged her Catholic background with his Muslim faith. The resulting backlash from Rita’s fans forced her to appear before audiences in carefully orchestrated shows that hid her face behind exotic dancers. Her marriage to Khan lasted only 10 months, ending when she discovered he had another wife. In 1953 Rita married actor Dick Haymes; they divorced six years later after she fell in love with Orson Welles.
