In the television show Doctor Who, there have been twelve different doctors since its 1963 premiere. Now, the program has announced that actress Annabel Scholey will play the next doctor after Jodie Whittaker’s first full season as the titular Time Lord in 2022. Scholey made her first appearance as Claire in the ninth episode of Season 13 last month, with The Sun reporting that she already has a multi-year contract to star on the long-running hit show. Her character will also make an appearance in the Christmas special this year before returning again in 2022 to take over from Whittaker.

I was filming on the set of Doctor Who – my very first time. It was late, we were all tired, and there had been a delay due to some stormy weather but, when I looked around at the iconic set-design and saw Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor) who’s been with the show since 2009, it all felt totally worth it. We got to shoot a few scenes from an episode that’s still being kept top secret. Filming for this show is serious business!

Well, we know that Emo-Claire will be 10 years old and we’ll also see a rivalry develop between her and Ryan during their first day at school. We don’t know much more than that, but it is still exciting!

The first thing I did when I landed back here was to go and see my friends who also traveled back in time with me. Well, they were from the same timeline so it was more like going home to see some people that I never saw before. All of us went out for a drink after that and talked about our adventures- and those we met. We had a lot of fun swapping stories.
Matt Smith came on set…
I remember the day we had a read through for Doctor Who and I met Matt Smith. He was playing the new Doctor, his first episode was called ‘The Eleventh Hour’. We read through it at the studio – me, Arthur Darvill (Rory), Karen Gillan (Amy) and Matt. It felt like a family reunion because they were people who loved the show and really understood it, but also made it their own.
We were filming this scene where we were running away from something, so everything was really dramatic. It was really nice to see things from another perspective because it’s how Maddie would see them rather than how Annie would see them, so that was exciting too.
