In iOS 16, Apple has introduced a new Home screen search button that shows at the bottom of your home screen. While this isn’t much of an issue when you have the iPhone X or other devices with the home button removed, it can be very annoying if you have an older iPhone model with the home button and it ends up taking up valuable space on your home screen where you could be placing other apps and widgets. Thankfully, there’s an easy way to remove this pesky search button! Step 1: Go to settings
Finding and opening the Settings app on your iPhone is probably the easiest part of this whole process. Just swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to reveal Control Center, then tap the gear icon. From there, scroll down until you find the Siri & Search option and tap it. Now scroll down a little bit more until you see Voice Searches Off. Tap that and disable the switch next to it. A message will pop up telling you that once you turn off voice searches, they can no longer be activated by pressing the home button. You can always access them by swiping up from the bottom of your screen and tapping search, or by pressing and holding down on the left side of the bar at the bottom of your screen (where Apple Pay would normally be). Once turned off, close out of settings.
Step 2: Scroll down until you see Siri & Search
In order to remove the home screen search button, you’ll need to go into your phone’s settings and disable Siri & Search. Doing this is easy and only takes a few seconds.
First, open up the Settings app on your iPhone. Then, scroll down until you see Siri & Search. Tap on that option and you’ll be taken to a new screen.
On the Siri & Search screen, you’ll see a bunch of different options that you can toggle on or off. You want to tap on the one labeled On Lock Screen. Once you do that, tap on Off under Allow Access When Locked. Now when you lock your phone with a passcode or Touch ID, there will no longer be an option for Siri & Search. You’re all set!
Step 3: Tap on it and uncheck the box saying Home button opens Siri
If you want to remove the home screen search button in iOS 16, you’ll need to go into your Settings app and tap on Siri & Search. Once you’re there, find the section labeled Home Button and tap on it. You should see a toggle next to Siri & Search that says Home button opens Siri. If everything was done correctly, no key should appear on-screen when you type and instead, you should see a cursor blinking where each letter should go.

Then, scroll back up and find HomeKit, which should be under Personal. Uncheck the box next to Allow apps downloaded from: and scroll all the way down to find App Store – Apple ID: **YOUR APPLE ID**. Tap that, then tap Turn Off In-App Purchases. Now you’re good to go!
