Boo Seong-cheol, the producer of popular dramas like She Was Pretty and Signal, has recently come out with his new series Ghost Doctor (고스트 닥터). We got our first look at Ghost Doctor with stills from the set in May, and the drama started filming in late June 2017. Based on the production schedule of previous dramas by Boo Seong-cheol, it’s likely that we’ll see Ghost Doctor air sometime around early 2018! So what can we expect from this upcoming drama? Is Ghost Doctor a romance?

Filming wrapped in late May. The drama centers around a medical student (Rain) who becomes possessed by a ghost (Uee) after undergoing an experimental surgery that he created with his professor. With her inside him, he can see ghosts, hear their problems, communicate with them and help them to pass on. It’s not a romance in any way—but it does have some supernatural romances to keep things interesting. There’s also an interesting love triangle between a criminal profiler (Kim Bum), Rain’s high school sweetheart from 20 years ago (Son Na-eun) and Uee, his new partner who happens to be a ghost whom he didn’t know existed until now.

What happens Ghost Doctor?

According to my translation, Rain gets his ghost split into two people. One of them is Rain who looks exactly like himself but has higher reasoning power (Rain can use logic). The other one is Rain’s body with weaker reasoning power but have better physical capabilities. And they communicate through a picture frame which connects them together so both sides can hear what each other is saying. What I thought was interesting about how he get his ghost split was that it wasn’t until after he died that his split occurred instead of before he died.

Is there a season 2 of Ghost Doctor?

The good news is there’s a season 2 on its way. The bad news is it will be a little while until we can see it. In South Korea, broadcasting stations usually wait until autumn to announce their upcoming drama schedule. While previous seasons of Ghost Doctor had aired in late December, the second season will premiere in early October, airing every Monday and Tuesday at 22:00 (KST). Is Ghost Doctor a comedy?

The show made me think a lot about life. It’s funny but at times it is also very sad. It will definitely leave you with some deep thoughts after watching each episode. Son Na-eun’s acting is really outstanding, she portrays her character so well, I can’t imagine anyone else playing her role except for her. Watching Ghost Doctor gave me insight into how people cope with death. Everyone grieves differently depending on their experiences and personalities. If there is one thing that I’ve learned from watching ghost doctor, it’s that even if we lose someone we love dearly we should not forget to live our lives as fully as possible until our last breath because every moment matters.

Is Ghost Doctor a bromance?

In past interviews, director Boo Seong-cheol has described Ghost Doctor as a bromance. However, for most viewers, such a description would seem like an oversimplification. The love between two men is certainly an important part of their relationship, but it isn’t simply that. In fact, without spoiling anything from episode 1 (which is enough), I would argue that Ghost Doctor is about more than friendship; in fact, it seems to be about many things simultaneously. As with any drama or film that sets out to encompass multiple themes within its narrative (as opposed to choosing one overarching theme), there are inevitably some conflicts or perhaps even contradictions that emerge due to such breadth.

After an experimental treatment fails and nearly kills him, Cha emerges in a vegetative state. He is then informed that his condition can be reversed with a new procedure: fusing himself with his dead twin brother’s organs in a process called Ghost Fusion. The tradeoff for having his body resuscitated is Cha having no memories from before he was fifteen years old; it’s as if he lived his life as one person rather than two.

Kim Bum Portrays Go Seung-tak

I’ve loved him since I was first introduced to him in Boys Over Flowers, but after seeing Kim Bum on Sungkyunkwan Scandal (and Miss Korea) I came to appreciate how his acting has improved. In all of his projects he looks like an average man next door, but in actuality he’s a skilled surgeon who wants to save as many people as possible. However, after being wrongfully accused of murder, Go Seung-tak is thrown into prison only to be saved by a cruel scientist who then injects himself with Go Seung-tak’s cells. Uee Portrays Jang Se-jin

Playing a doctor is hard. Really hard. And not just because I have to learn so much medical terminology—although that’s certainly part of it, considering what a medical drama series like Ghost Doctor entails. What makes playing Jang Se-jin so tough is that I’m also expected to be perfect. On screen, I’m supposed to be fully competent and capable as a highly educated surgeon. That means no matter how tired or weak she may feel in real life, Uee has to put on her game face at all times. That probably sounds all well and good—but in reality, I really struggle with it sometimes. There are scenes when we’re filming in which Jang Se-jin has to make some serious decisions about patients’ lives.

Son Na-eun Portrays Oh Soo-jeong

Oh Soo-jeong is a 31 year old doctor with a troubled childhood who died when she was 24. Before her death, Oh lost her father to an accident, her mother to cancer, and tragically experienced suicide when she learned of her boyfriend cheating on her with another woman. On top of that, Oh committed suicide by jumping off a building just moments after learning that all of her efforts in medical school were for nothing. The ghost Oh has all but given up on being human again until she meets Choi Min (played by Rain). Choi Min is a 35 year old mental patient diagnosed with Schizophrenia who suffers from delusions so bad that he’s constantly reliving his mother’s death.

Sung Dong-il Portrays Tes/Oh Joo-myung

Also known as an old man, a ghost doctor. He is able to communicate with dead people who are close to their family members in order to resolve misunderstandings between them so that they can move on. His dead wife, Oh Joo-mee, has been waiting for him since her death 20 years ago. Because of his connection with Joo-myung (who was beaten by Oh Hyeon), he uses Sung Dong-il as his vessel to interact with humans who have unfinished business in life. At first he dislikes living in Sung Dong-il’s body but eventually develops a bond between him and Sung Dong-il’s daughter Yeo Rin despite saying that he does not have any children before hand.

Tae In-ho Portrays Han Seung-won

Chief of thoracic surgery at Seoul National University Hospital who also teaches part-time. A jovial character with excellent medical skills, he is a quadruple bypass surgeon. The first Korean to perform a heart transplant. He enjoys playing guitar in his spare time. He has never gotten married or had any real romantic relationships because he was raised by his grandmother while his father was on duty as a soldier, so he is naive when it comes to matters of love and interpersonal relationships. Hates ghosts but tries to be polite around his girlfriend’s family, who are obsessed with them due to her grandmother being able to see spirits but her mother not having that gift.

Park Chul-min Portrays Ban Tae-sik

Unlike his character in Ghost Doctor, Park Chul-min is more famous for his comedic roles. That, however, hasn’t stopped him from landing a series regular spot on What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim? Park Chul-min has recently posted several pictures of himself on Instagram wearing a large cast on his right arm. He suffered an accident while filming Ghost Doctor as it is believed that he hurt his hand during an action scene with Kim Bum (Go Bok-dong). No word yet as to when he will be able to return to filming. However, despite what seems like a pretty serious injury, he did seem to be in good spirits and was smiling for all of those V Live videos posted earlier in the week. Ko Sang-ho Portrays Ahn Tae-hyun

Ahn Tae-hyun (born in 1982) is a doctor specializing in emergency medicine. He works at Severance Hospital’s emergency room department, which is where he encounters Oh Mal-soon (Kim Bum). Like his onscreen counterpart, Ahn Tae-hyun is an emergency room specialist. He was initially sent to Seoul from Busan to undergo training, but he decided to stay there due to his love for his job. His sister Ko Yeon-soo’s death forced him into becoming a doctor as he eventually took her place in school. He has a happy family consisting of himself, his wife Kim Ji-yeon and their daughter Yi Eun.

Ahn Tae-hwan Portrays Kim Jae-won

A doctor who sees death every day. He’s a cold, but caring individual. Kim Bum as Yoo Hyun-min: A genius cardiothoracic surgeon. He’s a warm, gentle person, but can be cold on occasion. Rain as Ahn Soo-hyeon: A specialist in internal medicine who is supposed to be dead. He is Tae-hwan’s reincarnation while Yoo Hyun-min is Ahn Soo-hyeon’s reincarnation. Uee as Jo Jung Eun: She comes from a wealthy family, but fell in love with Soo Hyeon at first sight and decided to save him by becoming his doctor and learning medicine.

Kim Jae-yong Portrays Lee Seon-ho

It is a story of a doctor who was born in 1988 with surgical expertise of no one in Korea. A main role that is far from normal appearance, with death being changed to something completely different at first glance. No matter how many times he falls into darkness and gets trapped, he always comes back to embrace his patients who are suffering from incurable diseases. When someone dies it doesn’t mean they disappear. This drama shows various medical situations like love, innocence, revenge and despair; all we have are stories of life, love and grief. Choi Seok-won Portrays Hun-gil

Choi Seok-won is a popular actor who is popular as an arrogant lawyer. It takes on a dramatic form at first, but it transforms into a different image. However, in real life, Choi Seok-won has been involved in various scandals. In 2014, he was arrested for drunk driving when he hit another car while riding his scooter home from a drinking party with Kim Hee-ae and Ryu Si-won. In 2015, he made headlines after assaulting an elderly man who asked him to move his car out of handicapped parking spot in front of an old folks’ home where Choi had moved into with his wife.

Yoon So-hee Portrays Im Bo-mi

After a spinal cord injury, So-hee is in an irreversibly vegetative state with no chance of recovery. While on his way to work, Oh Ro-seok sees her being transported to his hospital and decides to transplant So-hee’s brain into a healthy donor body that is brain dead. After being saved by Ro-seok’s surgery, Bo-mi wakes up as part of Roo Mi (Son Na Eun) despite not knowing her past self or how she got there. As part of Ro Mi who looks exactly like Bo Mi, she also has all of her memories while finding it hard to distinguish whether they are hers or from Roo Mi.

Han Seung-hyun Portrays Hwang Guk-chan

Guk-chan is a brilliant but lonely young surgeon who isn’t afraid to speak his mind. He has a severe case of clinical perfectionism, which leads him to make some questionable decisions. He also develops an unhealthy reliance on his mentor Song Geun-suh (Rain). There’s more going on beneath his serious façade than he lets on, however; perhaps due to being neglected as a child, Guk-chan has deep emotional insecurities that he struggles with throughout his life. His drive for perfection in medicine begins as a way of trying to please his mother (Lee Yoon-ji), but it soon becomes an obsession—one that proves harmful not only to himself but others as well.

A doctor with a 4D (death defying) skillset that gives her superhuman knowledge, she gets involved in a car accident and is on life support. She later dies but then comes back to life in ghost form. While ghost doctor Mi-ran does not know much about what she can do, she tries to learn more about who killed her by following Park Tae-hoon around as he works cases that have something to do with her murder. Hwang Seok-jeong Portrays Mrs. Kim: hospital’s custodian

she is a very old woman who runs into accidents frequently. She has been at hospital for over 40 years and her granddaughter, Hye-jeong, is always taking care of her. She doesn’t want to go to a nursing home because she is afraid that no one will take care of her. Because of that, she gets into more accidents by trying to escape from hospital, so Kang Ki-joon suggests an operation. Since it’s an emergency case, he receives an approval from Dr. Lee Min-ha for surgery with Dr. Yoo Sun-woo observing him secretly as his intern though Kang Ki-joon does not know about it yet.

Park So-eun Portrays Nurse Jung

Park So-eun played nurse Jung, a kind, yet practical nurse who was always beside Park Do-ha. She was in charge of caring for Yoo Shin during his recovery from serious injuries that almost took his life. Although So Eun has a lot to learn as a nurse, she is devoted to taking care of her patients. Her character symbolizes how hardworking nurses can create miracles with just hard work and determination. However, she tends to take matters into her own hands instead of following directions because she wants everything done perfectly right away. Shin Soo-hang Portrays emergency room doctor

Shin Soo-hang has plenty of experience dealing with life and death situations. In 2014, he was working as an emergency room doctor at Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital when a car smashed into his ambulance. After saving two people from certain death in that car accident, Shin became known as The Miracle Angel of Yeouido Hospital. From his new vantage point, he observes how people deal with death in different ways, through meeting Kang Bok-soo (Kim Bum), who acts as his guide to life in 2017. It’s a chance for Baek to learn more about what happens when one leaves their body behind; moreover, it’s also an opportunity for him to try something out of his comfort zone.

Bae Ki-bum Portrays OR anesthesiologist

Working in an operating room (OR) is one of a very few jobs that require Bae Ki-bum to hide his true self. He has to maintain a calm, but assertive presence for OR patients’ families as he coaxes them through various anxiety triggers during surgical procedures. To most, Bae Ki-bum appears as your stereotypical guy with job title of professional doctor, but in actuality, he only knows how to play that role while he’s at work. In his downtime, Bae Ki-bum feels listless because he lacks skills that are important outside of a medical environment (and not just because you can’t swim or drive).

Lee Tae-sung Portrays Jang Min-ho

Jang Min-ho (45 years old) was once a good doctor. Since he went to jail after he killed someone who threatened his family, his life has been ruined. He’s also divorced from Sun Mi-jung, who used to be a successful lawyer. Lee Sang-yeob as Kim Sang-hoon: Kim Sang-hoon (31 years old) is Jang Min-ho’s younger brother. He became a black sheep of their family due to his delinquent personality since he was young.

Lee Moon-soo Portrays Chairman Jang Kwang-deok

The heart of life is not just science or a human being’s body, but rather when you combine them together, they become stronger. Professor Moon has shown his great spirit of persistence that he could get used to any conditions despite getting old. He also shows how to die with a warm heart through his love for his wife until his last moment. Every man knows how difficult it is to go on living in society when one has reached a certain age without having made a name for oneself. His desire to be remembered as someone great drove him to find other people who possessed similar characteristics.

Woo Yong-hee Portrays paramedic

After losing her parents to an accident, Yong-hee grows up with a negative view of death. She becomes a paramedic as her dream job after high school. She is caught in a dilemma when she finds out that Eun Sung, one of her best friends, is diagnosed with cancer. On one hand, she would like to become an angel of death who is ready to embrace him at his last moment; on the other hand, she understands his wish to save himself and go through chemotherapy. At first glance, Yong-hee might seem innocent and emotional who can’t see anyone suffer except herself, but under that facade there are deep thoughts about life and death which no one knows about until now.

Park Sung-kyun Portrays medical school professor

He is great at what he does, but also has a lot of self-doubt. He knows that he may not be able to save everyone who’s dying on his table, but can’t just sit back and watch people die either. This character shows us how we should live our lives, by keeping our heads down, yet standing up for what’s right when we need to. We shouldn’t always seek out glory or honor like in other dramas (because sometimes it just isn’t worth it), but if something needs to be done, then let us fight for what we believe in.

Kim Woo-jin Portrays paramedic

Kim Woo-jin works hard to support his family as a paramedic, but he’s still unable to provide enough. Since he is not able to send his daughter to private school, she is being bullied in public school. Kim Woo-jin isn’t ready for death yet, but he sees it approach him in every person that comes into contact with him because of his job. He doesn’t feel like he can do anything about it until one day a man named Jo Gi-seok approaches him about changing fate…and becoming an immortal ghost doctor!

Lee Kyu-hyun Portrays mysterious motorcycle man

For much of his life, Lee Kyu-hyun was a mischievous prankster who played around. But then, an accident happened in his 30s that changed everything. According to him, he suddenly found himself in a ghostly world where he met Kim Young-min (played by Rain), an ambitious doctor who died 40 years ago. It’s a strange scenario to be sure, but Lee says it’s what happened to him. He realized that when he died (or came back?), Kim had taken over his body and lived out Lee’s life while also fulfilling Kim’s dream of becoming a doctor…such as it is since death doesn’t mean you have to stop living it.

Kim Jung-woon Portrays Jang Min-ho’s secretary

Kim Jung-woon is an actor who had his first acting role in SBS 2008 drama Athena: Goddess of War. He has also appeared in dramas such as City Hunter, Dr. Champ, and Nice Guy. His notable film roles include a psychopathic serial killer in 2014 thriller film Real. Jung-woon was diagnosed with stage three thyroid cancer in 2015 but recovered following treatment. He currently appears as Min Hyeok, secretary to medical director Jang Min-ho, in MBC medical drama Ghost (2016–present). The series follows genius doctor Do Min-joon who possesses supernatural abilities that cause him to feel pain whenever someone lies.

Ahn Hee-yeon Portrays Lee Ji-woo/ Jessica

Choi Min’s girlfriend. She cares for Choi Min so much, but Choi Min gets in an accident while on his way to work. He leaves her heartbroken, but she doesn’t lose hope since he didn’t die. She visits him at a hospital where he is recovering from amnesia caused by trauma. Lee Ji-woo (이지우) is a nurse who works at that hospital. On her shift, she tells off Ahn Hyeon-seok (father of Ahn Woo-yeon) for coming to visit his daughter with another woman with him (Woo Yoo-mi). Later that night, she takes her anger out on some thugs who are harassing her next door neighbor.

Is Kim Bum married?

No, Kim Bum has never been married in real life. He was previously in a relationship with Jeon Hye-bin from 2006 to 2009. They broke up due to his busy filming schedule for You’re Beautiful (2009). Kim Bum once said that he’ll only marry when he falls in love at first sight. As of 2018, no new details have emerged regarding his dating life or marriage plans. There is no evidence suggesting he is dating anyone currently.

A major factor to consider when writing your ghost doctor review is how many episodes there are.
