The Chippendales Murders – A Dark History

The Chippendales Murders tells the story of the murders of two male exotic dancers, Steve Kaplan and Michael Laughlin, by their boss, Paul Snider. The book is written by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca. It is based on actual events that happened in 1982 and was published on January 12th, 2019.. The killings were committed at the El Rey Theatre located in Northeast Los Angeles where the men were performing as part of a national tour that visited sixteen cities.

The motive for the murder was never uncovered. It’s possible that it could have been related to money; however, there is no evidence to support this theory.

Who Was Involved in the murders?

Robert Siegel, creator of the show Welcome to Chippendales and author of the book Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders, was inspired by true events that took place in 1991.

In the early morning hours of July 4th, 1991, three men in masks burst into an upscale San Francisco nightclub called Chippendale’s, bound and gagged six people inside and then set fire to it.

The three masked men shot and killed four club employees. Welcome to Chippendales: An American Drama with a Dark Twist

Two other victims died from smoke inhalation as they were being rescued from the blaze.

What Happened to the Men Involved?

Many who were involved in the crimes died violent deaths. In 1984, John Gacy was convicted of 33 murders and executed for 12 of them. On December 14, 1994, Richard Ramirez died of liver cancer on death row at San Quentin State Prison. On November 20, 1989, Ricky Kasso committed suicide by gunshot in his prison cell at the age of 32. Between May 3 and 6, 2003, Jeffrey Dahmer was beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver while awaiting trial for rape and murder.

Where Are They Now?

The series is set to follow the lives of six male dancers who form the iconic group, Chippendales. The story begins in 1979, when the group’s founder Steve Banerjee recruits six young men from Los Angeles and Bakersfield. They come together for one reason-to make money. And they succeed by turning what starts as a regional dance revue into an international sensation. As their fame grows, so do the pressures of success and their individual desires; which leads them down a dark path that threatens not only their legacy but also their lives.

Conclusion

Hulu has released an official trailer for their upcoming drama series, Welcome To Chippendale. It’s not just another show that glamorizes an iconic men’s entertainment group; rather, it focuses on the dark side of the industry, one where drugs and violence are rampant. If you enjoy miniseries like This Is Us and Mad Men, then this show is right up your alley.

The series will premiere on November 22nd exclusively on Hulu as a one-night event.
