Early Career

Orbán studied law at Péter Pázmány Catholic University, where he graduated in 1987. As a student, he became a member of Közgázs, the free-market economics student circle at his university’s Faculty of Economics. He joined Fidesz in 1988 and served as president of its Budapest branch from 1989 to 1990. He was elected to a parliamentary seat in 1990 and served as vice president of Fidesz from 1993 to 1994. After Fidesz won parliamentary elections under Józás Védér’s leadership in 1994, Orbán was appointed state secretary for youth and sports affairs in Védér’s cabinet on 14 May 1994.

Viktor Mihály Orbán was born into a Calvinist family on 1 February 1963 in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. His parents divorced when he was three years old and his mother later married Péter Aczél, a Lutheran pastor who raised Orbán as a devout Lutheran. Political Career

Orbán began his career as a lawyer, becoming a youth activist for Fidesz in 1985.
