What would happen if the mayor of Salem got stuck in a time loop? That’s the premise of this episode, where Salem is thrown into chaos as the same five days repeat over and over again and no one can figure out how to stop it—including Jefry Traske (played by Tony Hale from Veep and Arrested Development). Join Jefry and his ragtag team of investigators as they try to solve the mystery of the time loop that has trapped him and his city. The Mayor of Salem is Stuck in a Time Loop

The first time loop

Every day, there’s a first time for everything. For Jefry Traske, it was when he had to deal with reliving his daughter Loni’s funeral. The second time was when he tried to help Juliet Capulet solve her own murder case. The third time? Saving Thomas Wibbles from being run over by a truck. Things got weird quickly: Tony Hale began mouthing lines that he hadn’t actually spoken yet and Jefry turned into his younger self…only young Jefry (played by David Neher) didn’t realize that young Jefry (played by Lance Reddick) was about to get murdered!

A second chance with Sabrina

Imagine waking up and realizing that, despite your best efforts, you’re stuck reliving your worst day over and over again. That’s what it feels like for Jefry Trask (Tony Hale), who—for reasons unknown—keeps waking up to his worst day ever. But unlike most people in such predicaments, Jefry doesn’t just wake up as himself; he wakes up as his 14-year-old self. It’s not easy being 16 years old all over again, especially when you have an entire town (and world) depending on you!

A third chance with Olivia

Julia knew she should have let Jefry go, but that didn’t mean she had to be happy about it. She was sitting across from her co-worker as they drank coffee at their favorite cafe and stared at him longingly. If only there was some way she could get back with him…oh wait, what’s that? There he goes again! She watched as her ex went over to Olivia on top of The Witches Dungeon and decided it was finally time to say something. Julia grabbed Jefry’s arm just before he got close enough to kiss his new girlfriend. Not so fast, Julia said firmly.

Still thinking about Sabrina

Netflix announced that an adaptation of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic book series has been greenlit. Variety reports that it will be, A dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. It will be executive produced by Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who explained that they plan to draw parallels between both series: We’re doing something with a little bit more adult themes and subject matter but it’s going to look like nothing else on television. We want it to feel like no other show on television.

Looking to prevent being stuck in time again

One way to prevent your town from being stuck in time would be to remove all clocks and record devices. With no way to keep track of time, there’s no way for Jefry Traske to discover he’s living his day over and over again. But at what cost? This would not only prevent citizens from knowing what time it is, but also make scheduling difficult, as well as hamper communication within your town.

If a firefighter were called away at 5:00 PM but did not return until 8:00 PM, people may worry that something happened to him. Without clocks or phones, people will never know why someone was gone for four hours; they’d just assume he got lost in space-time again!
