Introduction
Zulmira is the deuteragonist of the series. She is a young girl who was born in the town of Stain’d-by-the-Sea and raised by a family of chimney sweeps. She tells people that she is an orphan, even though her family has spent years searching for her. She starts off as an annoying, bossy know-it-all who only cares about winning the Grand Prize and being the most popular girl in school. However, when she meets up with Klaus (and later Violet) again after years apart, we see that she has become more compassionate and sympathetic to others’ feelings—especially those of her two best friends Klaus and Carmelita Spats.
Conclusion
Olive Snicket is a character who develops from a shallow, materialistic girl into a more confident, thoughtful young woman. At the start of the series, Olive has no idea what she wants out of life, and her relationship with Lemony Snicket seems to be based entirely on his social status as an author. However, by the end of the series, Olive has gained self confidence and learned to value herself as an individual without depending on others for validation or support. We think this is one of Ms. Dwek’s best performances to date!
