In new season 3 premiere pics of TNT’s hit drama series Animal Kingdom, we see Sohvi Rodriguez as Mia Benitez, a tough young woman raised in a gang, led by her cousin Pete (Finn Cole), who is very rough around the edges. If you love watching shows like Suits or Law & Order, then you will love Animal Kingdom. It’s filled with great acting and writing along with some action that makes it interesting to watch every week to find out what happens next. One thing I really liked about it was how they did such a good job giving each character depth without making them seem too complicated or hard to understand like some other shows do sometimes.
I can’t wait for !! For anyone who hasn’t watched Animal Kingdom yet I would say give it a chance even if you don’t think you’ll like it because you may be surprised by how much you enjoy it!
The cast
Despite a freshman season that was somewhat lacking, actor’s Ellen Barkin and Scott Speedman really shined. Specially, from an acting standpoint, Ellen Barkin’s character of Jodi gave us just enough fodder to desire more. To be fair, some may argue that it’s not only about what an actor does with their role but rather how much screen time they are given. This second point is also valid but we need to balance both ideas for fair criticism. Unfortunately for them (and hopefully for us), their characters weren’t given much attention during season 1 so it would be expected that they would have improved substantially since then since most actors improve dramatically over time.
Sohvi Rodriguez’s journey
Sohvi Rodríguez has really come into her own on Animal Kingdom. The actress, who was previously featured on shows like The Fosters and Reign, plays tough girl Mia Benitez. She came to live with cousins Janine and Craig when she was 14 years old after her mother got sick and could no longer care for her. Janine (Daniella Alonso) is taken by surprise by her cousin’s arrival, but luckily has support from Nicky (Finn Cole) because he can relate to being an outsider. As Mia grows up in their home, she faces issues of accepting her family role when she learns that they are involved with organized crime.
What can we expect?
With her first full season of Animal Kingdom coming up on our TVs, here’s what we can expect from Sohvi. She is set to play Mia Benitez who is part of one of Cali’s most notorious gangs led by her cousin Pete. When her world is turned upside down by a murder, she fights to prove that she is capable of being more than just someone’s girlfriend. The latest addition to TNT’s hit crime drama series, Animal Kingdom, is Sohvi Rodriguez. She plays Mia Benitez, a tough young woman raised in a gang, led by her cousin Pete (Finn Cole), who is very rough around the edges. But although she acts like she belongs on these streets – selling drugs and committing robberies – something happened to her when she was younger that made her decide that life of crime wasn’t for her. Read on for more about one of TV’s most entertaining new characters.
So what does it take to play a character such as Mia? How do you approach playing someone so different from yourself? We had a chat with actress Sohvi Rodriguez recently to find out more about herself and how she sees Mia. So without further ado, here’s what we learned…
What do you think attracts people to Criminal Minds?

She spent most of her childhood being dragged from one homeless shelter to another with her older brother Ivan and younger sister Cruz. She was introduced to Pete by her father, Hector Benitez (aka Papi), who was attempting to gain control of a local neighborhood. Although she has proved herself worthy on numerous occasions, she still has difficulty proving herself as an equal to Caleb Pope Clayton, J’son Junior Upton and Deran Sarafian.
She often takes care of business when Pete is not around or distracted. She has complicated feelings towards Pope because they have known each other since they were kids but also grew up together in foster homes so they know more about each other than anyone else.
Fun Facts
The trailer showed her character dealing with all of her problems with violence. She didn’t care about anything, only revenge for what has happened to them. Her life had already been hard and it was even harder after she took a baseball bat and started swinging it at anyone who came close to her. There were scenes where she was seen running out of a burning house and chasing after someone who was trying to escape from his car, so he jumped over a fence that kept him from leaving. All she did was keep on following him; there was no way that he could escape from her because she wouldn’t let him go anywhere.
