Google Wifi might be just what you need to make your home Wi-Fi faster, more secure and easier to use than ever before, but setting it up can be a little intimidating if you’re not sure what you’re doing. Luckily, Google Wifi is one of the easiest mesh router systems to set up that requires almost no setup time. To get started, simply follow these quick and easy steps… Setting Up Your New Google Wifi: Everything You Need to Know

Connecting your Network Box to the Internet

Before you can start using your new network, you need to connect it to the Internet. This is a two-step process. First, plug in your Network Box to a power outlet near an Ethernet cable that’s connected to the router. Second, set up your Wi-Fi password and name (SSID) on the Network Box itself.

Connecting your WiFi points

1. Connect your WiFi points to a power outlet and plug the small, circular end of the Ethernet cable into one of the ports on your WiFi point. 2. Once you’ve identified which port is Internet, insert the other end of your Ethernet cable into an open port on your modem or router. 3. A new network name will appear on all devices, prompting you to enter a password and name for your WiFi point (choose something easy-to-remember). 4. Enter your login details and click Next. 5. Select Yes if you want to share this WiFi with everyone in your home, then select Next.

Configuring your WiFi network with an app

Install the Google WiFi app on your phone, tablet, or computer and enter your home network password. Once you’ve done that, the app will walk you through setting up the new WiFi points throughout your home. The more you have installed, the stronger and more reliable your WiFi signal will be.

If you’re installing one point in a large area (like an office), we recommend placing it in a central location where it has direct access to power outlets.

Tinkering with advanced settings

First, let’s take a look at the advanced settings menu. There are four tabs that you can access in this menu. The first tab is Settings. Underneath this tab, there are two sub-tabs: Basic Settings and Advanced Settings. Let’s start with the Basic Settings sub-tab. Here, you can choose your WiFi name and password for your network, as well as enable or disable features like Guest Networking (which I highly recommend enabling).

Next up is the Wireless Subnets tab. Here, you can choose from three different wireless modes: Universal Access Point mode (AP), Client Mode (STA), or AP+STA mode. Universal Access Point mode makes your Google Wifi work just like any other router by creating its own wireless network for devices to connect to on your home’s Wi-Fi spectrum.

Troubleshooting common problems

The most common problems people experience when setting up their new Google Wifi include slow speeds, difficulty connecting, and dead zones. Here are some troubleshooting tips for solving these problems.

– Make sure you have a strong signal by moving closer to the router or increasing the distance between the router and other devices in your home

– Try disconnecting all devices and restarting them one at a time until you find which device is causing interference
