Being the son of a famous sportscaster is not always easy, especially when you’re trying to forge your own path in life. But at least Quinn Mossbacher has someone to show him the way, right? Well, not exactly. You see, Quinn’s dad Fred Hechinger is more concerned with his job than with his family, which leads the boy down the path of bad choices and rebellion. That all changes though when he finally finds something he cares about—the White Lotus, an all-female football team from Hawaii. Quinn Mossbacher Finds Passion in the White Lotus

Did You Know?

Most people know Fred Hechinger as an actor, but did you know that he’s also an avid fan of the white lotus? In fact, Hechinger has been quoted as saying that the white lotus is one of the most beautiful and serene flowers in existence.

Hechinger first became interested in the flower when he was just a teenager, and he’s been fascinated by it ever since. Nowadays, Hechinger gardens for his own personal enjoyment. His garden features a variety of the white lotus’ botanical relatives such as calla lilies and hibiscuses, which are all native to Hawaii.

Wasn’t it nice?

Quinn Mossbacher, played by Fred Hechinger, found passion in the white lotus. The character was originally written as a socially awkward, screen-addicted teenage son who takes avid interest in the local Hawaiian sports. However, with Fred’s amazing acting skills, he was able to bring Quinn to life and make him into a relatable character. Quinn’s journey through the film is one that many people can connect with on some level, and that’s what makes Fred’s performance so great.

Did you like it?

I found myself really liking Quinn Mossbacher. I thought he was a great character and I loved how he took interest in the local Hawaiian sports. I also enjoyed how he was able to connect with his father on a deeper level. The only thing I didn’t like was how he was so socially awkward and screen-addicted. Even though it’s not uncommon for teens nowadays, I still felt bad for him. He has such an opportunity but can’t do anything about it because of his lack of social skills. However, by the end of the book, he had progressed enough that I’m excited to see what happens next!

Did you get bored?

Quinn Mossbacher was sitting in his room, scrolling through social media on his phone when he came across an ad for the white lotus. He had never heard of it before, but the description sounded interesting. He clicked on the link and read about how the white lotus is a beautiful flower that only blooms at night.

Did you enjoy learning about the historical details?

I found the history behind the white lotus to be very interesting. I had no idea that it was such an important flower in Hawaiian culture. I also enjoyed learning about Fred Hechinger and his passion for the flower. It is clear that he has a lot of knowledge about the plant and its cultural significance. There are many parts of this blog post that I really liked reading. The first one would have to be when Quinn explains how he became interested in studying this particular flower because there is not much information on it. Another part of the blog post that I liked was when Fred mentioned what people need to do if they want to help with conservation efforts by planting more white lotuses, although they may not last as long as some other flowers because they are so fragile.

Did you understand everything that was going on?

No, I didn’t understand everything that was going on. I’m still trying to figure out what the white lotus is and why Fred Hechinger was so interested in it. But I do know that it has something to do with sports. And I’m pretty sure that it’s a good thing. Quinn hasn’t been able to sit still for very long since he started watching it, and even his sister says she thinks he looks happier than he has in years. What’s really interesting about this show though, is how much focus there is on Hawaiian culture and values. A lot of the scenes are shot outdoors in nature; one episode featured surfers chasing waves at sunrise, which made me feel more connected to them because we love surfing too. Watching this show makes me want to go back home again!

What would happen if they forgot everything they knew?

Quinn Mossbacher would be at a loss without his screens. He’d have to find a new passion, something to fill his time. He might become interested in the local Hawaiian sports, as he takes avid interest in them. This could lead to him becoming a star player on the team. However, being away from screens and social media will lead to anxiety and possible depression for Quinn. After all, this is what he knows best. The same logic can apply to someone who doesn’t know how to work around the kitchen. If they were thrown into a situation where they couldn’t cook, they would feel anxiety or panic because that’s all they know how to do.
