She’s beautiful (like really beautiful)
That’s Annabelle Wallis, who plays Grace in Peaky Blinders. But what you may not know is that her name used to be Annabelle Burgess. Yup, she’s Tom Branson’s daughter from Downton Abbey! Her character appears for only a short time during season 2 of Tommy Shelby’s gritty drama about post-WWI Birmingham gangsters and struggles for control of his family and business, but when she returns it will be as a love interest for Michael Gray (Finn Cole). And if that wasn’t enough to get your heart beating a little faster…it seems that her old man isn’t exactly dead like we’ve been led to believe! So how will these two damaged characters interact?
She married Tommy after divorcing her husband
The first time we meet Tommy’s wife, she is sitting at her dressing table and putting on makeup while reading a newspaper. She doesn’t seem to notice Tommy, even though he is standing right behind her. Her name is Grace Shelby, née Burgess. The eldest daughter of Lord and Lady Abernathy and sister of Ada Shelby, Grace was born into a rich family but always resented her parents for not spending enough time with her as a child because they were too busy doing business deals. After being abandoned by both sets of parents for pursuing what she wanted instead of what they wanted, she married a Londoner named Michael Shelby and had two children, Arthur and Michael Jr., who died from diphtheria before reaching their third birthday.
Tommy is the only one who can truly tame her spirit.
In a season full of strong female characters, season four will introduce us to yet another woman with an authoritative presence: Tommy’s wife, Grace. She comes from a good family (i.e., high society) and was once engaged to Tommy’s cousin Michael, who was killed by Tommy during his first attempt at revenge after being sent off to war. While it isn’t clear whether Michael and Grace were still together when he died or if there is any love lost between her and Tommy, we do know that he is determined to make her see him as someone worthy of respect—and that she won’t be easy to win over.
Are Cillian Murphy and Annabelle Wallis friends?
Yes. They co-starred together in Inception, a 2010 Christopher Nolan film that Murphy starred and Wallis featured. They also worked together on Annabelle Wallis’s TV show, The Tudors. She was on season 2, he played Sir Francis Walsingham from seasons 1 to 3. Cillian has said he’d been looking forward to working with her again for a long time: I’m thrilled about working with Annabelle again as I really enjoy spending time with her and think she is fantastic.
Did they change the actress for Grace in Peaky Blinders?
The short answer is no. It’s easy to see why people might think that, though. For example, a quick Twitter search reveals plenty of people asking if they changed actresses. If you haven’t seen it yet and are worried that they have: worry not! The actress playing Grace is still Annabelle Wallis. The only difference is that her name is now listed as Annabelle Wallis (née Burgess). That’s because she and Tommy married in season 3 and she wanted to take his name instead of keeping her maiden name of Burgess.
Is Grace Mr Campbell’s daughter?
While we are all waiting for season four of Peaky Blinders to air, an interview with actress Annabelle Wallis (who plays Grace) revealed new details about her character. During an interview with Digital Spy , Wallis hinted that Grace has a lot of skeletons in her closet and is someone who tries not to get involved too much with [the family business]. With such a complex character, it is easy to see why fans have been captivated by her story line. It seems as though season four will focus more on Gracie than any other female character before. And although we already knew she was married and had children, one thing that seemed uncertain was whether or not she was actually Mr Campbell’s daughter.
