While this character might not be the most popular, nor has he been around the longest on Peaky Blinders, he’s certainly one of the most feared gangsters on the show, even by other gangsters! And it’s not just because of his reputation as a cold-blooded killer and general menace to society, but also because of the very credible actor that portrays him on screen… Jimmy McCavern (Brian Gleeson). So let’s get to know him, shall we? Who is Jimmy McCavern in Peaky Blinders? Jimmy McCavern Is The Most Intimidating Gangster On Peaky Blinders

What Makes A Good Villain?

Brian Gleeson’s Jimmy McCawern is a gangster’s gangster. Nasty, violent and sadistic, he’s in charge of protecting Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, from all that threaten him. After murdering one of his rivals at Shelby’s wedding to Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis), he earns an eye-watering 10 grand for a few seconds’ work – but it’s little surprise to see why. He uses violence as both a means to an end and an end in itself; he beats his victims just because he can.

What Makes Jimmy McCavern so Bad?

Jimmy is intimidating because he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. If you cross him, you’re done for—and Jimmy has no problem flexing his muscles. But, here’s a clue—his name may sound like it should be Irish, but don’t expect him to have any mercy if you screw up. All in all, Jimmy is bad news and there’s no reason why anyone should ever mess with him. It’s Brian Gleeson at his absolute best!

The Character Development Of Jimmy McCavern

Peaky Blinders is one of those series that has no problem killing off characters or introducing new ones. Which is why Jimmy McCavern’s character development on Season 3 of Peaky Blinders was so unexpected. By episode 4, we see Jimmy completely turn from a minor player in Tommy Shelby’s plot to take over Birmingham and transform into his own boss. I found his story arc for season 3 extremely interesting and wanted to learn more about him. So what follows is my attempt at breaking down Jimmy’s character development on season 3 of Peaky Blinders, which turned out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Some Quotes From Jimmy McCavren

Jimmy has stolen a lot of money and as such, people are looking for him. We rob them, they’re going to rob us back. So we need guns; I’m in charge of guns. You rob a bank, you buy a gun. Jimmy is currently hiding out in an abandoned house to avoid those looking for him. But he won’t be safe for long because it’s just not that easy to hide from something like that. I robbed banks, I stole cars and I sold drugs and I thought if anyone ever found out my past… They would kill me or worse lock me up forever so where could I go?

Who is Jimmy McCavern based on?

Jimmy is based on a real-life Irish gangster named Martin The Viper Foley. Foley was born in Dublin and served in Fianna Éireann, an IRA splinter group that led bombings and robberies during Ireland’s War of Independence against Great Britain. After independence, Foley became a hitman for Dublin crime boss John Dillinger—hence his nickname The Viper (based on Dillinger’s own alias). In 1931, however, Foley turned state witness to avoid prison time for bombing a police station. He moved back to London and joined another crime family before leaving for America.

What happens to McCavern in Peaky Blinders?

In season 4 of Peaky Blinders, which just landed on Netflix, Irish actor Brian Gleeson plays Jimmy McCavren. If you’re wondering how it ends for him, read on. Spoilers ahead. Jimmy seems nice at first but what happens to him on Peaky Blinders? He’s a member of Arthur Shelby’s gang and in season 3 they rob a train. He is shot during that robbery but ends up surviving his injuries and is still around in season 4 despite shooting himself twice in that last season. Eventually, he dies off screen, gunned down by police while robbing a pawn shop in Birmingham. That death happens early on in season 4 though so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what role he plays next year.

Is Peaky Blinders a true story?

As far as we know, Peaky Blinders is not based on any specific true events. However, there is a real-life inspiration for it. In fact, even if there are no exact parallels between real life and fiction, Peaky Blinders does bring to light some of Britain’s history that many people aren’t aware of. It all started with an incident that took place in Birmingham back in 1891. A gang known as Peaky Blinders carried out a very violent robbery against two men who were transporting money on horseback. They stabbed one man several times while he was sleeping (who survived), and then they also slashed his companion’s face while they stole their loot.

Did the Peaky Blinders meet the Billy Boys?

In 1925, Billy Fullerton and a dozen members of his Billy Boys gang were murdered by their enemies, three men dressed in black suits and silk scarves. The killings would lead to one of Scotland’s most infamous trials, when 16 members of Glasgow’s Jewish community were charged with conspiracy to murder.
