Starting off my career in cyber security wasn’t always easy. One of my friends always jokes that he wishes he had dropped out of college like me; while we were in college, all I did was sleep and play video games. Nowadays, however, I stay quite busy. Whether it’s learning something new every day or working on a side project, I’m always tinkering with some kind of project to fill my time.
The best advice anyone ever gave me
Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to fail. Like most high school students, I was constantly told how smart I was and that there were very few things in life I couldn’t accomplish if I really wanted to do them. From a young age, my parents constantly drilled into me that all of my decisions would lead me down one of two paths: success or failure.
What would be my advice to others trying to get started in this field
Well, it’s pretty simple: 1) Make sure you know what you want to do and where you want to go with your career. Don’t let anything get in your way of that, even if it means you have to go back to school and delay graduation for a semester or two.

You should start by asking yourself what you want to do and why. Be realistic about your skills and experience. Then, think about how much time you’re willing to spend on training and networking in order to achieve your goals.
