Four new recurring cast members
It was just announced that four new recurring cast members have been added to the highly anticipated HBO series House of the Dragon.
Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Rhys Ifans will be joining the cast of the show, which is set to begin production this spring.
The series is a prequel to Game of Thrones and will focus on the Targaryen dynasty. Paddy Considine will portray Lord Viserys, who is Daenerys’ brother and heir to the Iron Throne before he gets killed by Khal Drogo; Matt Smith will play Prince Aegon; Olivia Cooke will play Lyanna Stark; and Rhys Ifans will portray Aemon Targaryen.
We are pleased to announce that House of the Dragon has added three new recurring cast members: Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Rhys Ifans. Matt Smith will be playing Aragon, Prince of Mirkwood. He is an archer who is skilled in espionage and hunting with a bow. He serves as one of the lead players in a campaign with other characters from The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings storybooks including Gandalf, Frodo Baggins, Bilbo Baggins, Legolas Greenleaf, and Sauron/The Dark Lord Sauron.
Bethany Antonia Portrays Lady Baela Targaryen
We are pleased to announce that Bethany Antonia has been cast as Lady Baela Targaryen in House of the Dragon. Lady Baela is a strong and passionate young woman who is fiercely loyal to her family. She is not afraid to speak her mind, and she is always ready to fight for what she believes in.
Phoebe Campbell has joined the cast of House of the Dragon in the recurring role of Lady Rhaena Targaryen. Lady Rhaena is the eldest child of King Viserys Targaryen and his sister-wife, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. She is a strong-willed and determined young woman, who is eager to prove her worth to her father and earn his love and approval. Campbell is a talented young actress, who is sure to bring depth and nuance to her character. Phoebe is an amazing addition to our already stellar cast, says director Kevin Wilcox. She brings a new strength and power that we hope will make this show as memorable as possible.
Harry Collett Portrays Prince Jacaerys Velaryon
Harry Collett is best known for his role as Dunkirk’s Tommy in Christopher Nolan’s war epic. He joins the cast of House of the Dragon as Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, heir to the throne. Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower (five sentences): Welsh actor Rhys Ifans is no stranger to playing complex characters, having tackled such roles in films like The Amazing Spider-Man and Notting Hill. On top of that, he’s not a stranger to HBO either: he appeared in both The Night Manager and Game of Thrones.
Ryan Corr Portrays Ser Harwin Strong
Ryan Corr is best known for his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street and The Great Gatsby. He has joined the cast of House of the Dragon as Ser Harwin Strong, a skilled warrior and longtime friend of Daenerys Targaryen. Corr’s character is a fan favorite, and his addition to the cast is sure to please fans of the show. I’m very excited to be joining such an iconic show, said Corr. Playing Ser Harwin on Game of Thrones will be a great honour. His story lines are going to be interesting and I can’t wait to start filming with the other cast members.
Tom Glynn-Carney Portrays Prince Aegon Targaryen
Tom Glynn-Carney has joined the cast of House of the Dragon in the role of Prince Aegon Targaryen. Aegon is the heir to the Iron Throne and a member of House Targaryen. He is a skilled warrior and has a strong sense of justice. Glynn-Carney is best known for his roles in Dunkirk and Game of Thrones. He will be joining other series regulars Ciarán Hinds as Mance Rayder, Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen, Naomi Watts as Lyanna Stark, Rory McCann as Sandor Clegane, Clive Russell as Brynden Tully (The Blackfish), Dean S Jagger as Maelys I Blackfyre, Carice van Houten as Melisandre, Ian Beattie as Ser Meryn Trant and Kerry Ingram – Ned Stark’s daughter Arya – who was last seen on the show when she recited an oath to serve the Night’s Watch after being captured by The Hound at the end of season 4.
Jefferson Hall Portrays Lord Jason Lannister/Ser Tyland Lannister
Lord Jason Lannister, also known as Ser Tyland Lannister, is a new recurring character in House of the Dragon. He is a member of House Lannister and is related to Tyrion Lannister. He is described as being tall and muscular with green eyes and blond hair. He is a skilled fighter and is also a member of the Kingsguard. Jefferson Hall has been cast in the role and fans are excited to see what he will bring to the show. He has previously starred in The Son as Eli McCullough and on ABC’s Once Upon A Time as Prince Charming/Josh Dallas.
David Horovitch Portrays Grand Maester Mellos
Grand Maester Mellos is one of the most experienced and respected members of the Citadel, having served for over four decades. He is a wizened old man, but still has a sharp mind. He will be a valuable asset to House Targaryen as they seek to regain their rightful place on the Iron Throne. In the show he is portrayed by David Horovitch. Mellos was played by Mark Gatiss in seasons 1-3.
Brandon Williams played him in season 4 (and did not return for season 5).
The part was recast with David Horovitch in season 6.
Wil Johnson Portrays Ser Vaemond Velaryon
Wil Johnson has joined the cast of House of the Dragon in the role of Ser Vaemond Velaryon. He is a respected knight and member of House Velaryon who is loyal to his family and kingdom. Johnson is known for his roles in The Bill, Holby City, and Waking the Dead. He also recently played Clarence Stratton on ITV’s award-winning drama The Secret.
John Macmillan Portrays Ser Laenor Velaryon
John Macmillan has joined the cast of House of the Dragon in the role of Ser Laenor Velaryon. Ser Laenor is a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and a close friend and ally to Prince Rhaegar Targaryen. He is known for his valor and honor on the battlefield, as well as his loyalty to House Targaryen. The actor can be seen next playing Rick Scott on ABC’s Scandal.
The cast also welcomes Amanda Clarke as Alysanne Blackfyre: Amanda Clarke has joined the cast of House of the Dragon in the role of Alysanne Blackfyre. Alysanne is married to King Aegon IV and acts as his advisor during most military engagements. The actor can be seen next playing Michonne Blake on AMC’s The Walking Dead.
Theo Nate portrays young Laenor Velaryon

Graham McTavish Portrays Ser Harrold Westerling
McTavish is best known for his role as Dwalin in The Hobbit trilogy. He has also starred in Outlander, Rambo: Last Blood, and NCIS: Los Angeles. McTavish joins the cast of House of the Dragon as Ser Harrold Westerling, a loyal and reliable knight. Westerling is a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes. He is a fierce warrior and will stop at nothing to protect those he loves. While originally born into nobility, Westerling was taken captive by Lannister forces during the War of Five Kings. While a prisoner of war, he befriended Bronn (Jerome Flynn) and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). Westerling became instrumental in orchestrating Jaime Lannister’s escape from Riverrun during Season 7 of Game of Thrones.
Ewan Mitchell Portrays Prince Aemond Targaryen
Ewan Mitchell has joined the cast of House of the Dragon in the role of Prince Aemond Targaryen. Prince Aemond is the eldest son of King Viserys Targaryen and heir to the throne. He is a skilled warrior and dragonrider who is fiercely loyal to his family and kingdom. Ewan Mitchell is best known for his roles in The Descendants and Once Upon a Time.
