The trailer for the new season of American Horror Story just dropped, and it’s both intriguing and baffling. The big reveal? A new character named The Witch, played by British actress Hannah Waddingham, who seems to share the same look as Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) had in Season 3 of the FX show, Coven. While there aren’t many details about her yet, here’s what we know about the new character so far. Hannah Waddingham as the Witch: A New Character Profile

The actress

Hannah Waddingham is a British actress, born in 1968. Most recently she appeared in two episodes of Game of Thrones where she played Septa Unella, but more significantly to Potter fans, she also played Aunt Marge and later Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix (2007) and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part I (2010). One fact you may not know about Hannah’s life is that she was one of a handful of actors to survive all eight Harry Potter films with her character intact; everyone else died. In Cursed Child, however, she returns to her role as a witch. Of course, we won’t spoil what else happens! We hope you enjoy meeting our new friend!

The role

The witch is a mysterious new character in season six. Her role on Game of Thrones is small, but pivotal. She appears to play an important part in Arya’s story and her fate is linked to one of our main characters. Hannah can’t say much about what happens on screen when she appears but, off screen, she describes filming with Arya as really exciting.

Her time on set was brief (she only shot for three days) but her work left a lasting impression that has stayed with her: Filming has been quite memorable; I’ve never done anything like it before. For now, all Hannah can say about who she plays—beyond the fact that she’s called the witch—is that her character has an incredible journey ahead of her.

Who Is Hannah Waddingham Play as the Witch

In The Witcher 3, fans will meet a mysterious woman named Triss Merigold. In appearance, she’s a dark-haired beauty with pale skin and dark eyes—but in reality, she’s an intelligent sorceress who holds an enormous amount of power at her fingertips. This new character can only be played by one voice actor: Hannah Waddingham. It turns out that not many people know much about Hannah, despite her extremely prominent role in The Witcher series thus far; in order to bridge that gap, here’s a quick rundown of everything we know about how Hannah plays as Triss. You’ll have to wait until 2015 to see just how well!

Addressing the controversy

Some fans of Game of Thrones are unhappy about new cast members for Season 8, including a character known only as the witch. While we can’t reveal much about who she is or what she’ll do, we can tell you that actress Hannah Waddingham’s role will be significantly expanded from her first appearance in Season 7. From her first moments on screen, fans should recognize her, and they’ll be intrigued by what they see. Prepare to meet one of Thrones’ most mysterious characters yet.

What’s coming up next?

We know very little about what’s in store for Daenerys in season 3. In fact, one of her most notable characters, Barristan Selmy (Ian McElhinney), was killed off just moments after he mentioned a secret order of assassins known as The Sons of The Harpy. Fans have speculated that these could be a group of eunuch slave soldiers who will hunt down and kill those trying to help Dany take over Meereen. Based on what we do know about Dany, it’s possible she’ll seek revenge for Ser Barristan’s death and take charge by hunting down members of The Sons.

Teaser clip reveals more about the witch’s powers and backstory

Showrunner and executive producer Bryan Fuller has confirmed that those who have read Full Dark, No Stars will get a sense of a nod in one direction about who or what she is. But for now he’s keeping mum about what else we can expect from his new character — an enigmatic woman with apparent powers over time, who remains relatively still even when events around her are not. However, judging by her first appearance in Episode 6 (available on-demand with previous episodes), viewers might expect more than they would from your average supporting character. (Keep watching past that teaser clip to see what we mean.)

Season 3 a game changer?

In HBO’s Game of Thrones, Season 3 is set to be a game changer. The final season of a series always brings excitement and anticipation from fans, but what makes Season 3 so different? Although we don’t yet know all that will happen in Season 3, many are theorizing that some deaths may be imminent. It has already been confirmed that Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) and Hannah Waddingham (the Witch) will join the cast for Season 3. Does their joining mean death for a beloved character? Many speculate yes! With only 10 episodes for season three, each one could have incredible importance. And with Game of Thrones being based on George R.R.
