Diego Hargreeves was Luther’s best friend, they grew up together and had been inseparable through their early teens. Diego’s mother died of an aneurysm when he was 12 and after that his father became cold towards him, frequently criticizing his every move, this led to Diego resenting his father and trying to earn his approval at all costs by doing everything he asked of him, even if it meant lying or stealing from others, he did not care as long as he made his father proud of him again. How did he start behaving this way?
Diego’s parents were both soldiers for hire before he was born, so he grew up on several different military bases around Central America. He was an only child, and his father’s constant absences made him feel unwanted. Diego developed a natural jealousy of Luther as he grew older because Luther got to spend more time with their father than Diego did.
Why does he feel this way?
Diego is Luther’s half-brother. Although he was raised by a good father in Roger, Diego struggles with coming to terms with how little time he spends with his father now that he is grown. In addition, Diego deeply resents Luther for his father’s affections as well as for having superior powers. Diego also feels like an outsider in Echo Creek because of his gang membership.
What did he do about it?
Castenada eventually learned to control his abilities, but his jealousy of Luther for his father’s affections didn’t go away. As an adult, he changed his name to Diego Hargreeves and became a district attorney in Southern California. He had an affair with Luther’s wife Tess.
How did it turn out?
It all started when I was a young boy. My name is Diego but my friends call me by my nickname, The Kraken. I had no idea what that meant, I was just happy people referred to me as someone. There was a lot of problems back in those days that weren’t being addressed by any one party, so they fell into disrepair. In our case, it was trust issues between father and son.
