Watch The Trailer

Now that we’re pretty far away from Despicable Me, it’s hard to believe we’ll see another Despicable Me film. But apparently we will—this time featuring a younger version of supervillain mastermind Gru (Steve Carell). Still, don’t get too excited about catching up with Gru and his minions anytime soon. While talking with Total Film magazine, Danny Trejo, who voices Stronghold in Minions: The Rise of Gru, said you won’t be seeing a sequel anytime soon. It’s gonna be quite a while I think, he said.

What are people saying about the movie?

It’s really funny, it’s really cute, it’s really well-done. —The Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie. It was pretty cool to be a part of something that kids are going to love and enjoy, said Trejo. It’s kind of like a present from me to them. Who knew he was so good at doing voices? I don’t know what [the voice] is. It must have been God gave it to me. I didn’t practice or anything… They just asked me if I could do it, and I did it, said Danny…

Why you should go watch it

* SPOILER ALERT * If you thought that Despicable Me 2 was going to leave it there, you were wrong. Not only did Gru (Steve Carell) save his wife Lucy Wilde from prison, he also adopted three little girls and got a hamster named Mr. Perkins for good measure. In all seriousness, though, we couldn’t have asked for more; everyone got their happy ending and there’s no such thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to little yellow guys with big eyes and weird voices.

Does Danny Trejo have 18 kids?

A crowd has gathered outside one Danny Trejo’s Tustin, California homes. A masked man is peering out from an upstairs window. Everybody! yells a man behind them. I want to read you something! I heard it on ABC News Radio! He reads aloud about a story about how Danny has 18 kids with 12 women and that he spends his nights at home alone watching reruns of Law & Order, though there isn’t anything wrong with it because he can afford to pay for things like food and clothing and housing. Then he asks everyone if they believe Danny is actually living inside that house or not. Do they think that being rich means he doesn’t have time for people?

What was Danny Trejo convicted?

If you know Danny Trejo from his many great performances in various films, chances are good that you might also know that he has quite a checkered past. Before he had his career as an actor, Danny was a troubled youth who got into trouble with the law on several occasions and eventually served time for drug offenses. It was during one such stint behind bars when Danny got clean for good and turned to acting, which eventually led him to winning an Academy Award nomination. However, having achieved so much since becoming sober, he would be quick to tell anyone tempted by drugs or crime that there’s no shame in not giving up if you fail once or twice.

How many years sober does Danny Trejo have?

Danny Trejo is extremely successful at kicking substance abuse. He has been sober for 24 years, and he credits much of his success to Alcoholics Anonymous. When he was with his first wife, she introduced him to A.A., which helped him to stop drinking, smoke crack cocaine and shoot heroin. I had $2,000 on me that I’d stolen from her, he recalls. It was burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to go into a room with three black guys and make them count it while I smoked crack cocaine.
