Is Mosley in Peaky Blinders based on a real character?

The characters portrayed on Peaky Blinders are fictional. The show’s writers say that Thomas Shelby and his family are based on several real-life figures, but Sir Oswald Mosley is not one of them. Fictional characters often include components of historical figures, but they usually share only a few traits with their real-life counterparts. In cases where an entirely fictional character has been created, it’s possible for viewers to believe that he or she is based on a real person–this is why many actors who play fictional characters have research materials available during production so they can familiarize themselves with actual people from history if it benefits their performance.
