I was out cruising the highway the other day, when I spotted this little Minion riding his bike alongside me! Well, turns out it wasn’t just any old Minion- It was Otto, Gru’s new recruit in his quest to conquer the world! When he asked me if I wanted to join him on his trip across the country, I decided that nothing would be better than getting some buddies together and hitting the road to see how Gru was doing on his latest evil scheme. So here I am to tell you about Minions: The Rise of Gru!

What is your background?

To be honest, I have no idea what happened in Despicable Me 2. I missed it in theaters and avoided it for years after that because I didn’t want to spend $5 on a movie ticket just to get an hour and a half of commercials. However, after having kids, we received one minion-themed toy after another as birthday gifts; our son has even more minions than his older sister ever did. It got so bad that he had minions at his second birthday party. We were sick of minions; they were taking over every room in our house! So when my brother invited us to see an early screening of Minions, I was really reluctant…until he mentioned RZA would be playing a character named Phil—or something like that.

What do you like about the movie?

The characters, especially Gru and his minions. I’m sure you already have watched it and loved it. But if you haven’t, then I suggest that you do so. Aside from being funny, there are lessons to be learned in it. How can a supervillain turned into a family man find happiness?

For me, watching them is more than just entertainment; they teach me lessons in life which I need and appreciate more than anything else. What are those lessons? Here they are! They’re on point!

Why should we watch it?

Minions is a kids movie, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable for people of all ages. It has hilarious moments, cute characters and features RZA as a biker with braces who Otto befriends on his way to San Francisco. This is one part where it’s okay to watch a kids movie just because you want to laugh. So get your hands on some popcorn and stock up on sweets—you’re going to need them!

Where can we watch it?

If you’re really a die-hard RZA fan, you might have seen his turn as a transposed Vietnamese biker with braces (presumably for protection) and a diamond tooth in Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 Neon Demon. If you haven’t seen it yet, maybe check it out before watching Despicable Me 2. Otherwise, prepare yourself for confusion and question why there was only one line in which he even resembled his famously prolific alter ego—Ghostface Killah. What exactly went wrong?

Are RZA and GZA brothers?

They’re cousins. RZA is Bobby Diggs, Jr. GZA is Gary Grice, also known as Arthur Grice and Justice Allah. They are sons of Robert Bobby Digital Diggs, Sr., who helped found The Wu-Tang Clan in 1993 along with Ol’ Dirty Bastard (Russell Jones), Inspektah Deck (Dante Ross), Method Man (Clifford Smith), Tommy Whispers (Thomas Bates) and Raekwon (Shaquan Chuck Watson). Jones passed away in 2004 due to complications from a dirt bike accident; following his death, Method Man became president of Wu-Tang Management and Records until 2016. Deck left in 2010 due to creative differences and mutual conflict with Cilvaringz.

Did RZA marry Mecca?

In doing a little research into RZA’s films I found out he has been married for over 15 years and has 5 children, including twin daughters. He is most known for his films Kill Bill directed by Quentin Tarantino and Red Tails directed by Anthony Hemingway. Many know him as just an actor but he is also a successful director, writer, and producer for many hit movies. He has done several rap songs such as Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin Ta F’ Wit which brought great fame to him along with making history as one of their best hits ever made. This song gave them more fame than ever before in that year even winning an award.

Who from Wu-Tang died?

Let’s be honest. No one expected much from a film about yellow, gibberish-speaking henchmen with an addiction to bananas. But when Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and Steve Coogan signed on as key supporting characters in Despicable Me, a cute and silly script seemed like it might just work. This is not that movie. Though without some essential advice, you might end up feeling like you accidentally sat through two or three movies while watching Minions –the Illumination Entertainment/Universal animation spinoff focused around Gru’s diminutive sidekicks. Here are 10 tips for enjoying your time spent in their unique world…and leaving with all of your limbs intact.

Are Wu-Tang Bloods?

RZA has confirmed that Wu-Tang Clan members can easily be found in Minions. I want people to look for [them], he said in an interview. When asked about his character, RZA said He is a mysterious biker, who actually gives out gold and weapons to both sides of the clan — because he doesn’t want anything in return. He’s a good guy. But then did RZA confirm or deny that he is part of Wu-Tang? After thinking on it a moment, he replied, I think they’re bloods. If you study our history, I think we’re cousins, and laughed before continuing.
